Ten Minute Meditation

I have struggled to find a meditation practice that works for me. I know that there are folks that go on meditation retreats and meditate for hours. That’s not me and I don’t think it ever will be. But I do enjoy checking in with myself and with my breath and “massaging” my amygdala. WHY? I notice that I am more calm, clear, and empathic if I take the time to sit on the floor and breathe. I also make better decisions throughout the day.

Recently I’ve made progress on establishing a ten minute meditation as a new habit. How did I do it? First, I had to find a regular time to do it. It took a while but what seems to be working is to replace my second cup of coffee with ten minutes of meditation. Second, I had to arrange with my partner that they stay in bed til 7am so that I have time to do my thing. So far, so good.
