Populism – a political approach that strives to appeal to ordinary people who feel that their concerns are disregarded by established elite groups.
I don’t normally write about politics, but I am very concerned about our recent election. Trump has opened the door to populism and it seems that many in his party are considering going through it. Given the popularity of DT, why wouldn’t they?
This is a dangerous path and Democrats need to start addressing it now. Journalists need to focus on it as well. Sure, we want to move on from Trump, but it is foolish to ignore the will of 71 million people. Believe me, Republican politicians aren’t ignoring it.
Addressing Populism will take deep understanding and tremendous creativity and bravery. We must steer the country, and even the Republican Party, in a new and better direction.
