Wealth Has a Need for Speed

Closing the wealth gap closes a lot of other gaps. Closing the wealth gap should be our number one priority. What good is a clean environment if so many folks are struggling with poverty and all of the pain and systemic disparities that come with it.

Closing the wealth gap requires imagination, innovation, and work in multiple spaces — in schools, in after school programs, in churches, in families, in government, in job training programs, in nonprofit and for profit companies. It also requires gap identification and bridge building across these spaces. It also requires a sense of urgency. I heard Black Ambition CEO Felicia Hatcher say, “Wealth has a need for speed.” She’s right. While on the one hand, change happens at the pace of trust, the watch we are wearing on that hand is ticking.
