An Inclusive and Interesting Tech Economy + Society

THE PROBLEM
The way that technology is taught and practiced in most spaces is not inviting or inclusive. This is problematic because it leads to a tech workforce and ecosystem dominated by white men. And since technology in an of itself amplifies whatever it is assigned to amplify, it amplifies homogenous values.

THE RESPONSE
If we teach and practice technology in a culturally responsive way, then more diverse people will learn technology and participate and help shape the tech economy to be more inclusive and interesting.

RETURN ON INVESTMENT
If the tech economy is more inclusive and interesting, we will experience the following positive outcomes:

  1. Healthier economies at the neighborhood and family level
  2. More interesting and inclusive products and services being created and used in society
  3. Fewer unethical and destructive products being created and used in society
